Door grids for wooden doors can be of three types: grids inside the glazing, grids on the glazing and grids with duplex. All three types of door grids are described below.
Grids inside the glazing or inner pane grids are made of aluminium; they are fixed inside the glass unit at the production stage. It is possible to use any available RAL colour. Grids on the glazing can be interior or exterior. Interior grids are placed on the interior side of wooden doors, so the divided light effect is mainly visible while inside the house. Exterior grids are used when the focus is on the exterior of the house. In this case, grids are fixed on the exterior side of wooden doors.

Removable Door Grids

Some door grids for wooden doors are glued to the glass permanently while others may be easily removed and replaced. In the latter case, there is a “snap-in” mechanism which allows taking the grids out and putting them back in. Only interior and exterior grids for wooden doors may have this possibility.

Door Grid Patterns

Door grid design possibilities are endless, but there are some already established patterns. They evolved in times when only small panes were manufactured. When choosing a grid pattern for your wooden doors, it is important to consider the architectural style of your house, as well as the general style of the neighbourhood.

Colonial pattern divides the glazing of wooden doors into perfect squares or rectangles. It is important to note that rectangles need to be more tall than wide.
Diamond pattern is characterized by oblique grids that create diamond shapes.
Prairie pattern is usually composed of nine divided lights. There is a small square-shaped light in each corner, while the middle is occupied by a large rectangle-shaped light. This pattern is popular nowadays, because it does not obstruct the view as much as other patterns. A Queen Anne pattern is similar to the Prairie pattern, only that each corner light is divided into four squares instead of one.
