How to Measure Fly Screens

Fly screens are designed to cover windows and doors from persistent insects such as flies, mosquitos, and midges, among others. However, in order to carry out their purpose, they have to fit the opening tightly, so that no gaps would be left around the perimeter. Below is an instruction of how to measure different types of fly screens. All measurements should be taken using a steel measuring tape for accuracy.

Fixed fly screens

Open the window and measure the space that you need to cover. The height of a fixed fly screen is equal to the distance between the top and bottom parts of the frame in the narrowest point. The width of a fixed fly screen is equal to the distance between the left and right parts of the frame in the narrowest point. Additionally, measure the depth of the frame in the narrowest point: this depth will be used for the fly screen. In order to calculate the price of fixed fly screens, enter the exact height and width into the price calculator. Fixed pollen screens are measured following the same procedure.

Hinged door screens

Measure the height and width of the door opening (aperture); measure in several locations, in order to determine if the aperture is not warped. This will be your final height. To calculate the width, you need to add 20 mm. Note: hinged door screens are mounted on hinges, so it is necessary to plan in advance where the hinges will be fixed. Depending on the fixing location, final measurements may require adjustment. It is advisable to consult our staff members before placing your order for hinged door screens.

Retractable screens

Open the window and measure the space that you need to cover. Measure the height and width in several locations. Then add the space needed for cassette and guide rails. In order to calculate the price of retractable screens, enter the exact height and width (including the space necessary for cassette and guide rails) into the price calculator.
