Window Blind Measurements in the Price Calculator

Window Blind Measurements

Window blind measurements have to be accurate in order to neatly cover your windows or doors. Below is an instruction of how to measure different types of window blinds. One of the key aspects is deciding where you want to fit the blinds, because this determines the measurements that you will need. There are several window blind fitting locations:

Glazing bead fitting. Window blinds are fixed on the glazing beads of the window, taking very little space. Glazing bead fitting is very useful for inward opening uPVC windows, as the blinds are fixed on the sash and move together with it when the window is opened for ventilation. Glazing bead fitting is quick and easy.
Frame fitting. Window blinds are fixed directly on the window frame. This option may be unsuitable for some types of windows.
Inside the recess. Window blinds are installed in the recess close to the window, so that the recess is still visible. This gives a clean look and does not obstruct the window sill – they can be used for various purposes, such as displaying your family photos. Inside the recess fitting is not recommended for inward opening windows, as the blinds may obstruct the opening and closing of windows.
Outside the recess. Window blinds are installed over the recess, so that the frame and recess is concealed when the blinds are closed. This type of window blind installation makes the windows look bigger and hide the frame and sill from view. The main drawback of this kind of window blind installation is the obstructed window sill.

All measurements of window blinds should be provided in millimetres (mm). We will make the blinds exactly in your specified measurements, so all necessary deductions should be made in advance. For maximum accuracy, call our specialists to take the measurements for you.

1. To get the height of aluminium Venetian blinds, measure the distance from the furthest point of the lower glazing bead to the furthest point of the upper glazing bead. Note down the measurements in millimetres.
2. To get the width of aluminium Venetian blinds, measure the distance from the furthest point of the glazing bead on the left, to the furthest point of the glazing bead on the right. Note down the measurements in millimetres. Hide

Wooden Venetian Blinds

Wooden Venetian blinds have several fitting possibilities: frame fitting, inside the recess, and outside the recess. Depending on your chosen fitting location, the measurements of wooden Venetian ...Read more blinds will be different.
- Frame fitting. Wooden Venetian blinds are fixed on the upper frame of the window or door. To get the height of wooden Venetian blinds, measure the distance between the central points in the head rail and bottom rail of the window (from the central point in the head rail to the central point in the bottom rail). To get the width of wooden Venetian blinds, measure the width of the glass plus the glazing beads on both sides of the glass.
- Inside the recess fitting. Wooden Venetian blinds are installed inside the window recess, either on the wall above the window (face fitting), or below the lintel (top fitting). For this type of installation, measurements of the recess are necessary. To get the height of wooden Venetian blinds, measure the distance from the sill to the lintel; measure in the depth where the blinds will be installed. Measure several times (on the left side, in the centre and on the right side), and the note down the smallest number in millimetres. To get the width of wooden Venetian blinds, measure the distance from one side of the recess to the other. Measure several times (at the top, central part and at the bottom), and note down the smallest number in millimetres. You may deduct several millimetres from the final measurements, so that the blinds would have some space around them in the recess.
- Outside the recess fitting. Wooden Venetian blinds that are installed outside the recess will cover the recess entirely, so overlaps on each side are necessary. To get the height of wooden Venetian blinds, measure the distance from the window sill to the area above the window recess. The height should be calculated in a way that the blinds would not obstruct the opening of the window when fully raised. The width of wooden Venetian blinds is equal to the width of the window sill. If there is no window sill, measure the recess and add 30 to 50 mm on each side. Hide

Measure several times for accuracy: height is measured on the left side, in the centre and on the right side; width is measured at the top, central part and at the bottom. Vertical Blinds

1. Outside the recess. If vertical blinds are installed outside the recess, measure the height and width of the recess and add the following measures.
- Height of vertical blinds: recess height + 70 mm.
- Width of vertical blinds: recess width + 100 mm.
The additional measurements are necessary to allow for overlap, so that vertical blinds would neatly cover the whole window or door without any gaps.
2. Inside the recess. If vertical blinds are installed inside the recess, measure the height and width of the recess. Measure several times and note down the smallest number in millimetres. To get the final measurements, do the following deductions:
- Height of vertical blinds: recess height - 20 mm.
- Width of vertical blinds: recess width - 10 mm.
